Representing Time in Multimedia Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
As multimedia systems deal with a variety of temporally interrelated media items, synchronization is an important issue in those systems. One part of synchronization is the representation of temporal information. In contrast to traditional computing tasks, multimedia imposes new requirements on the representation of time. Specifically, a fine-grained and a flexible temporal model is required. Therefore, a number of temporal models have been suggested by various authors. However, there is not any temporal model that has been agreed on for multimedia. This paper evaluates and classifies a selection of the most common existing models applying fundamental statements of the time theory and temporal logic. Learning from the deficits of the existing models, a new temporal model based on interval operators is proposed for multimedia systems.

Cipher text only attack on speech time scrambling systems using correction of audio spectrogram
Recently permutation multimedia ciphers were broken in a chosen-plaintext scenario. That attack models a very resourceful adversary which may not always be the case. To show insecurity of these ciphers, we present a cipher-text only attack on speech permutation ciphers. We show inherent redundancies of speech can pave the path for a successful cipher-text only attack. To that end, regularities ...
متن کاملDesigning and assessing fixed dental prostheses 2 multimedia-based education in dentistry students
Background: Above all methods effective learning results from decent training, acquired in the proper environment and encouraging creative methods. Computer-assisted training by educational software is considered a fundamental measure to improve medical and dentistry education systems. This study aims to design and assess fixed dental prostheses via 2 multimedia instructional contents at the Gu...
متن کاملA Comparison of Streams and Time Advance As Paradigms for Multimedia Systems
A common model for multimedia systems is the stream, an abstraction representing the flow of continuous time-dependent data such as audio samples and video frames. The primary feature of streams is the ability to compose processes by making stream connections between them. An alternative time-advance model is related to discrete-event simulations. Data is computed in presentation order, but in ...
متن کاملAn architecture for intelligent support of authoring and tutoring in multimedia learning environments
Both representing cases as fixed scripts as well as the development of initial expert systems as a basis for computer based tutoring systems is particularly difficult and time intensive in a multi-institutional development project. On the other hand, structured systematic knowledge and a common terminology is necessary for automatic generation of information and quiz pages as well as automatic ...
متن کاملProcessor Capacity Reserves for Multimedia Operating Systems
Multimedia applications have timing requirements that cannot generally be satisfied using time-sharing scheduling algorithms and system structures. To effectively support these types of programs, operating systems must support processor capacity reservation. A capacity reservation and enforcement mechanism isolates programs from the timing and execution characteristics of other programs in the ...
